About Scilab Case Study Hackathon
An initiative of the FOSSEE Project, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay, India. The FOSSEE (Free/Libre and Open Source Software for Education) project advocates for the adoption of FLOSS tools to enhance the quality of education in India. Our mission is to minimize reliance on proprietary software in educational institutions.
Through various initiatives, we promote the use of FLOSS tools, enabling the replacement of commercial software with their open-source counterparts. Additionally, we develop new FLOSS tools and enhance existing ones to cater to the needs of academia and research.
The FOSSEE project is an integral part of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (ICT), under the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

Scilab Case Study Hackathon
Eligibility
Registration and case study submissions are open to everyone from December 24, 2024 to February 10, 2025.
Open exclusively to individuals (team participation is not allowed).
Designed for students, researchers, and professionals passionate about numerical computation.
Participants should have a fundamental understanding of programming and computational tools.
Participation Guidelines
The decision of the review committee and organizers regarding the results will be final, with no scope for queries or appeals.
Each participant is allowed to participate only once.
All submitted case studies will be published as open-source projects for public access.
Participants found engaging in any form of malpractice will face immediate disqualification.
Participation is limited to individuals only; team entries are not permitted.
Open to students, researchers, and professionals with an interest in numerical computation.
Participants should possess basic knowledge of programming and computational tools.

Participate in the Scilab Case Study Hackathon and challenge yourself! In this engaging event, you'll select a published research paper, implement its methods using Scilab, and demonstrate how your results align with the original findings. This hackathon emphasizes the potential of open-source tools, promoting Scilab as a reliable alternative to proprietary software for academia and industry alike.
How To Apply
Before proceeding, it is mandatory to complete this Google Form: (Click here to access it). Please note that your participation will not be considered without submitting this form.
After submitting the form, visit this website to review all instructions: (Click here to access it). Be sure to explore all the links provided under the "Case Study Project" tab.
On the same website, you will find a Proposal Form. Complete it according to the guidelines provided for your selected Case Study project.
Important: When specifying the name of your chosen Case Study project in the Proposal Form, use the following format: "NameOfCaseStudyProject (SCSH25)".Submit your proposal according to the instructions, and our team will review and approve it based on the abstract you provide. Ensure that the abstract offers a clear overview of the case study project and includes a reference link to the chosen case study. Once these steps are completed, you will be fully registered for the hackathon.

The rewards for the competition are as follows:
First Prize: ₹10,000
Second Prize: ₹5,000
Third Prize: ₹3,000
Consolation Prize: ₹1,000
All winners will also receive a Certificate of Achievement.
