Prime Minister Internship Scheme
Registration Closing Date: 10. 11. 2024
About Prime Minister Internship Scheme
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs announced on Monday that the registration window for young applicants on the dedicated portal for the Prime Minister Internship Scheme (PMIS) — an initiative designed to enhance employability among Indian youth — will close on November 10.
“Last Call! Don’t miss your chance to apply for the PM Internship Scheme! Applications close on November 10th — seize this opportunity to shape your future! #PMInternship #YouthEmpowerment #MCA21,” read a post by the MCA on the social media platform 'X'.
The PM Internship Scheme has received an overwhelmingly positive response, with various industries eager to connect with young talent and shape the future workforce. To date, 280 companies have joined the portal — www.pminternship.mca.gov.in — offering 1.28 lakh internship opportunities under the scheme.
PMIS Benefits
12 months real-life experience in India's top companies
Under the PMIS, an allowance of ₹5,000 per month and a one-time grant of ₹6,000 will be provided. Recently, the MCA has mandated that internship applicants seeking to benefit from the PM Internship Scheme must have an Aadhaar number or complete Aadhaar authentication.
Increasing Job Prospects
The PMIS aims to provide young Indians with hands-on industry experience and improve their job readiness. By bridging the gap between academic knowledge and industry expectations, the scheme offers internships across a variety of sectors including technology, manufacturing, finance, retail, and healthcare.
According to economic analysts, the government's emphasis on preparing India's youth for the job market and aligning their skills with industry demands has been well-received by companies keen to support workforce development. Leading corporations offering internships include Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Consultancy Services, Larsen & Toubro, Reliance Industries, HDFC Bank, Maruti Suzuki, Tech Mahindra, ONGC, Bajaj Finance, Eicher Motors, Max Life Insurance, Shriram Finance, Muthoot Finance, and Jubilant Foodworks.
The sectors with the highest number of internship opportunities include oil, gas, and energy; automotive; travel and hospitality; banking and financial services; and metals and mining. Other key sectors posting internships include manufacturing and industrial, infrastructure and construction, IT and software development, FMCG, and telecom.
Internship opportunities are currently available across 737 districts in 37 States and Union Territories, with the pilot scheme receiving strong interest from youth. The PMIS aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of a “Viksit Bharat,” aimed at creating a prosperous, advanced India ready for future challenges. By emphasizing the importance of practical skills alongside academic learning, the scheme prepares students for the workforce and helps close the skills gap.
Launched as part of the government’s broader initiative for human capital development, PMIS is a strategic effort to enhance youth employability and support India’s economic growth.
