About ICT, Mumbai
Established on October 1, 1933, as the University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT) under the University of Bombay (now Mumbai), the institute was founded to advance India's expertise in chemical science and technology. Over the decades, it has evolved into a premier deemed university focused on education, research, training, and industrial collaboration in chemical engineering, chemical technology, applied chemistry, pharmacy, biotechnology, and bio-processing.
In 1985, the UDCT was granted partial autonomy by the University of Mumbai, which further expanded under the University Grants Commission's (UGC) autonomy framework. Recognizing its growth and impact, the institute was restructured as the University Institute of Chemical Technology (UICT) on January 26, 2002. Subsequently, under the World Bank's TEQIP initiative, it achieved full autonomy in 2004.
