About IIT, Banaras Hindu University

IIT (BHU), Varanasi, established in 2012 through an Act of Parliament, is recognized as an institution of national importance in engineering, technology education, and research. Located in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, the Indian Institute of Technology Varanasi is a public technical and research university. Originally founded in 1919 as Banaras Engineering College, it became the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University, in 1968. IIT (BHU) celebrated its centenary in 2019-2020, hosting a global alumni meet and various cultural events. To mark the occasion, the historic 80-year-old BENCO chimney was re-erected, symbolizing the institute's 100 years of excellence.

Experience and Qualification Requirements

Professor: Applicants must have a minimum of 10 years of teaching, industry, or research experience (excluding the time spent pursuing a PhD) from the date of their PhD award. At least four of those years should have been spent at the level of Associate Professor in IITs, IISc Bangalore, IIMs, NITIE Mumbai, IISERs, or equivalent positions in other Indian or foreign institutions of comparable standards as of the application date. Candidates should demonstrate leadership in research within a specific area of specialization, with achievements such as guiding M.Tech and PhD students, a strong publication record in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, patents, laboratory or course development, and/or other recognized professional contributions.

Associate Professor: Candidates must have a minimum of six years of experience in teaching, industry, or research (excluding the time spent pursuing a PhD) from the date of their PhD award. Of these, at least three years should be as an Assistant Professor Grade-I in Pay Level 12, or as an Assistant Professor (Regular) with an AGP of Rs. 8000/- (pre-revised), or as a Senior Scientific Officer/Senior Design Engineer in a reputable organization, as of the application date. Applicants should demonstrate substantial experience in independent research, including supervision of M.Tech and PhD students, a strong publication record in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals, patents, laboratory or course development, and/or other recognized professional achievements.
