About FOSSEE, IIT Bombay

The FOSSEE (Free/Libre and Open Source Software for Education) project advocates for the use of FLOSS tools to enhance the quality of education in the country. Our goal is to minimize the reliance on proprietary software within educational institutions. Through various initiatives, we promote the adoption of FLOSS tools, aiming to replace commercial software with their FLOSS equivalents. Additionally, we develop new FLOSS tools and improve existing ones to meet academic and research needs.

The FOSSEE project is an integral part of the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology (ICT), under the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.

Eligibility

Students enrolled in any engineering or non-engineering course, as well as graduates and freshers passionate about software development, are encouraged to apply. Although a background in Computer Science and Engineering, Information Technology, or related fields is preferred, students from other disciplines with strong programming skills are also welcome.

Competition Overview

The Desktop Application Development competition is designed to foster talent in software development, with a focus on building desktop applications. Participants will have the chance to attend a 'Guidance Workshop' led by the FOSSEE team from IIT Bombay, where they will be trained on the essential skills needed for the competition. This workshop will serve as a valuable learning experience for software development enthusiasts aiming for a career in the IT industry and will help participants prepare for the competition.

Following the workshop, participants will receive a problem statement that will be used for evaluation. Winners of the competition will have the opportunity to join FOSSEE, IIT Bombay, as interns.
